What is Abnormal Psychology ?



It 
is a branch of psychology that deals with the abnormal behavior and  psychopathology. In abnormal psychology we usually study patterns of behavior, thoughts, and emotions. The term covers a broad range of disorders, from depression to obsessive-compulsive disorders [OCD] to personality disorders. The term "abnormal" indicates that something away from the norm. Many behaviors could be considered as abnormal, this branch of psychology typically deals with behavior in a clinical context. The science of abnormal psychology studies two types of behaviors : adaptive and maladaptive behavior. Adaptive behavior are ones that are well-suited in their surroundings and lifestyles, and the people communicating and understanding each other. Maladaptive behavior indicates that some problems exist, and individual is not able to cope with environmental stress which is leading them to have problems functioning in daily life in their emotions, physical actions, talks and mental thinking.

  3. Emotional maturity and controlling power
  4. Knowledge of reality[know how to behave in a particular situation, e.g., happy, sad, anger etc.]
  5. Less hallucination, delusion, illusion and easy to overcome it.
  6. Less confused 
  7. Good rational behavior, logical attitude, consistency, regularity, self confidence.
  8. Self care[knows how to secure physical and mental health].
  9. Well social behavior
  10. Mentally balanced
  11. Good adjustment skills
  12. Organized personality[because of properly working motor and cognitive parts]
  13. Good self-knowledge 
  14. Good self-esteem
  15. Low insecurity feeling
  16. Good social adaptation
  1. Lack of insightful behavior
  2. Low social adjustment
  3. Low emotional maturity and controlling power
  4. Less knowledge about reality[they don't know where to show anger, happiness,]
  5. High hallucinations, delusion, illusion and have difficulty to over come it
  6. More confused
  7. Irrational behavior, less logical attitude, inconsistency, irregularity, self doubt.
  8. They don't know how to secure physical and mental health
  9. Antisocial behavior
  10. Mentally imbalanced
  11. Lack of adjustment skills

  13. Lack of  self-knowledge
